Armley Mills is an impressive building in it's own right and is well worth a visit during the day, as it is a museum. But impressive by day, turns into outrageously bitter and dark during the night. A vast building with unspeakable horrors within its walls.  Armley Mills was once the world's largest woollen mill. 1707 was the first documentation of the mills and by 1788 it  had acquired 5 waterwheels powering 18 fulling stocks. In 1788 Armley Mills was bought by Colonel Thomas Lloyd who turned it into the worlds largest woollen mill. In 1804 Benjamin Gott bought it from Lloyd but by 1805 a fire struck and the mill was almost entirely destroyed. Gott re-built the mill and the building survives largely intact to this day. Working conditions in the mills were unregulated and frequently appalling, children were particularly  vulnerable to exploitation and abuse, working long  hours in terrible conditions. In one notorious case  in 1832 a child died when he was not allowed to stop work to go to the toilet.  Armley Mills has gained a reputation for being a very active location. There has been shadowy figures seen in various parts of the building recorded. People being touched when no-one is in approximity. Unexplained sounds of footsteps and machinery being heard and sounds of children and shouting. There has been other things such as poltergeist activity and cold spots, light anomalies seen and battery drainage. For all those with a less than strong stomach, the gruesome history of the place, is definably not for you, but for the hard hitting ghost hunter, walk this way.
