The Bull I' Th' Thorn is a favorite for Prestige Paranormal on the ghost hunt pub/inn circuit. Out of all the pubs and inns we have done, the Bull I' Th' Thorn has to be up there on one of the more active locations. The 2 course meal is superb, last time we had a lovely veggie melt in the mouth soup and a roast dinner. Vegetarian option is also available and was enjoyed by all.During the 18th and 19th Centuries this was a prominent Coaching Inn on the Manchester to Derby route and they still offer a friendly and welcoming 'old worlde' atmosphere in their Medieval Inn and Restaurant. The Bull 'I' Th' Thorn has had several occasions of paranormal activity. With its dark cellars, and kitchens, back rooms and main medevil bar and with a sumptious two course meal included, this place is a must see.
Situated alongside the Roman Road which runs from Buxton to Ashbourne is The Bull 'i th' Thorn. Built over 700 years ago this farmhouse became a hostelry named The Bull in 1472. In 1654 the name of The Bull was changed to Hurdlow House and was often referred to as Hurdlow Thorn. The name Bull I' th' Thorn is derived from the combination of these past names.
The age of Bull 'i th' Thorn is displayed throughout. With original Tudor panelling and stone flagged floor throughout.
With over 400 years as a hostelry which is situated alongside a very popular commuter route The Bull 'i th' Thorn has a very long and interesting history, including plague victims, Civil War, and Highwayman.
Theres so much paranormal activity reported, and since Prestige Paranormal have been here many a time, here is what we have come across during our recent visits.April 21st 2012: Sam has sensed various spirits here. Phillip Wrightson, a man who was done for stealing, and was tied and drawn outside by a horse who kicked his head in by galloping along outside and he was quartered, and his parts thrown into the well as a deterrent to others. Richard knightsbridge who had hid hand stabbed when he was caught cheating at gambling in the Pool table room. The Pool table room the is a spirit called Angus Mcpherson who wa on his travells and got into an altication and died from his stomach being stabbed. He comes into the Pool table room and makes people feel rather perculiar. He is a nice person, just his passing over conditions are very overbearing. This April visit we has a 'Most Haunted Pendle Hill Live' moment when one lady almosst dropped to the floor in one spot of the Pool Room. Marshall Godwin from the 1800's, responsible for murdering a lady called Mary, a servant girl for refusing his sexual advances. On visit he seems all very too charming. If he fancies you, and you ask if he will touch you, he usually does. Hes done every single visit we have been on!The Party Room had great activity with the table tipping, a little girl makes her presence known and likes to show off. Also sensed was a lady called Nancy with red hair behind the bar going back to the 1940s ad 50s. Dennis Harper a regular drinker in the 1970's came through on the ouija board in the main bar.September 1st 2012: Hen night private party ghost hunt. Marshall, yet again touched the ladies he liked in the pool table room and also the Medieval banqueting room. The table went crazy in the Party room by the girl again, so much so she broke our table, then 20 seconds later, two drinkers who was just ready to leave for the night screamed in the Ladies toilets. Upon investigating they told us the middle cubicle door had slammed shut and the lightss flickered at the same time. Sounds like she was scared we was going to tell her off! We obviously said she wasnt in any trouble and came back playing with us by moving marbles rolled along the floor to the girls on the night. Also the medieval room was home to taps by Marshall. Again people were feeling weird in one area of the Pool Room and when a lady had sat on a stool, it started to wobble with her on it. We changed the stool, and also the person to eliminate it, and again it happened, so matter what we did, it would still wobble.October 6th 2012: The Pool room again had people feeling rather giddy after Angus's presence, he also seemed to follow us aroud this night, with making a guest feel perculiar at the end of the evening in the Medieval room and Angus was this time setting off the k2 meters. A girl called francine and the girl that moved the table again in the party room was responsible for making the grandfather clock in the pool table room tick strangely on command when asked. Then again back to normal when we asked her to stop. Francine, made the k2's go to red for a very very long time near a second grandfather clock in there. Party room table was going wild yet again. Marshall touched yet agai ladies he fancied in the Pool table room.December 15th Christmas dinner 3 course and ghost hunt: Very very active night. The party room we held the ouija board in we had a show off spirit in visitation called Esat and he was a drinker there. He also opened the party room door as well!. A spirit called Colm Liver, an irish fellow from the late 1700's came through on the automatic handwriting. Esat continued with the table tipping, ging around and around until it tipped onto the floor. One of the guests got touched again by Marshall in the Pool table room. Angus yet again made his presence known in the pool table room, sat in his usuall spot and again made someone else feel perculiar and also kept touching Sam the medium. The Medieval room was home to some more k2 action, but would not reveal who they was, however, everytime we threatened to leave the room, the k2's would go off as if to say 'dont go!'. The kitchen thi time was the highlight of the night with taps by an 8yr old boy who was setting off the k2's and making the very large rack above with the pots and pans on swing. He would do this several times when asked.Your event will include
