Margam castle is in an absolute picture perfect setting and is a prestige example of a gothic castle. It is worth seeing the breathtaking view before sundown, as after dark, it becomes somewhat of a different location altogether. From happy children's giggles, to nasty atmospheres Margam castle has more than its fair share of haunting. Built on the site of an ancient Iron age settlement stands the hulking, dominating presence of Margam Castle. A striking piece of Gothic architecture, the Castle was commissioned in 1830 by Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot. 53 years beforehand there was a previous incarnation of the castle only to be mysteriously levelled. Stories of stone masons falling to their deaths from the once erected scaffold could have been the reason why. Once built Margam Castle was home to the Talbot family. The Talbot's were wealthy people and the castle was home to a small community of house staff, groundskeepers and workmen. The Talbot family lived here until the outbreak of war in 1939. At that time the castle was bought by David Evans-Bevan, who found it difficult the take care of the vast property, and the property was requisitioned and used by British and American forces during World War Two. After the war the Castle fell into disrepair and was acquired and restored by Glamorgan Council during the 1970's. Today the Castle can be visited all year round as a tourist attraction. One frequently encountered spirit is thought the be Robert Scott a gamekeeper at the house for many years. It is thought that Scott was murdered by a poacher and his spirit still rages around the grounds today. Robert Scott has often been seen purposefully ascending the Gothic staircase leading the Castle. His presence is consumed with rage over his unjust killing. Rocks have been thrown at those who hold seances and endeavour to speak with the spirits. The most violent and angry spirit is certainly Robert Scott who is said to have slammed doors and hurled projectiles, and emit a foreboding presence. The sound of giggling children is heard frequently through the long corridors and dramatic rooms of the family areas. There have been reports of children in Victorian dress seen drifting in and out of doorways and moving objects for fun so don't forget to bring some items for them to play with. The large figure of the blacksmith is a familiar vision to many of the gamekeepers and gardening staff who maintain the vast castle grounds and we now know his name is Jacob. At night security guards have reported running footsteps and chattering voices with no sign of any living intruder. Reports of cold spots and orbs in the Castle are very regular occurrences, it seems the the Castle is flushed with psychic energy. The cavalier in the tapestry comes in visitation and he moved the chair and also threw stones on the october 2012 visit.  Charlotte also made her presnce known in her bedroom by taps and knocks. In the Dining room a monk frequents the area and he to was throwing stones and also a bottle top.The number of paranormal stories coming from the site on a regular basis could make this property a contender for most haunted house in Britain. On our last visit, it was active, right from set up, to right to the very end. We had the best emf conversation, a 12 ft board leaning up against the wall, was pushed over and was witnessed by guests, sounds of chairs moving, knocking during the table tipping session....on the table we was using! Our Medium Sam picked up on Robert standing on the stairs, and was so adament he was there, she placed the emf meter there and it was picking up high emf readings. Great orbs in the library was also witnessed, as well as footsteps following us. It has to be one of our favorite contenders this location and can't wait to go again, so join us if you dare!
