The village of Kielder is a small rural community situated in the North Tyne valley at the northern end of Kielder Reservoir, 8½ miles northwest of Falstone. Kielder village takes its name from Kielder Burn, which means the Violent Stream. The Kielder Burn unites with the Deadwater Burn to form the North Tyne river. Kielder village is welcoming to visitors today, but the area has a long and turbulent history.A prehistoric cairn or burial mount of stones was found here, and given the name the Devil's Lapful. There is evidence of a burial site dating from about 3000BC. Flint arrowheads have also been found in Kielder Burn. Lying in a remote area with a sparse population near to the border with Scotland, the North Tyne suffered border raids and warfare for many centuries. William Wallace's army rampaged through here in 1297 and it is recorded in 1311-1312 that Robert the Bruce 'laid waste to Keildir'. Of the people living in the district, the very wealthy built castles; clansmen generally built pele towers, while small farms had bastles for defence. The Cout of Kielder was a border chieftain, famous for his height. He perished suddenly during one of the many disputes, and is buried near Kielder in an enormous grave. In an attempt to maintain law and order, the borders were divided into the East, West and Middle Marches, with a warden for each, and Kielder lay within the Middle March.Early settlement around Kielder Castle, a hunting lodge built by the Duke of Northumberland in 1775. Previous settlements were expanded in the 1950s by the Forestry Commission who constructed housing to accommodate the workers employed in the planting of Kielder Forest. Most of this housing has now been sold back to the private sector. Although little is known about this building, it really makes it a mystery to uncover with a lot of the spirits here being quite willing to answer our questions on our last visit. The activity here was fantatic the last visit we came here. In what we call Maries room upstairs at the far end of the castle Marie the maid's shadow can be seen and also the smell of burning wood as she tends to the fire. The base room was brilliant. We saw a ball of light the size of a beach ball go in various directions in the room. Theres no outside influence of cars or street lighting so we have no idea what caused this huge light anomaly, although our Medium reacons it is the Spirit of Lady Charlotte Clive, Hugh Percys the duke of Northumberlands Wife who enters the base room and disappears into the room next to Maries room which she believes is her bedroom. The Stairs leading to what we call Attic one we heard footsteps the last time we was here. Attic one stairs leads up into 4 room: To the right the halloween room with props and toys the castle uses for its halloween event. To the left Emma the servant girls room. Sam was spot on about the book being hers that is still in the room and she made taps in this room. Emma the servant girl had an issue with food and committed suicide and dived headlong first into a nearby hole or well. She was heartbroken by a lover. To the front of the stairs of attic one there are two rooms. One in Front of the other. The first room shadows are seen and stone throwing occured by Emma. Then through this room into the second room, where Emma tapped to questions on command fantastically. The Courtyard is a scene of violence with a gardener groundskeeper who was terribly awful to young boys, and once grown up, had taken revenge on the sinful man and evenutally murdered him in Attic Two. Attic Two is based on two floors. The bottom area is storage and when you get to the top of the stairs, there are 3 further rooms. To the left we had great ouija board with the boy who exacted revenge. And to the right the torch flicked on command by the groundskeeper that was murdered. On the balcony,Hugh Percy plays mind games with you by making you feel dizzy, and also people see figures in the scrying mirror.
